I said more than once that I want to buy a Radeon 4850 before. Now that I have regained my sanity, I realise that it is impossible.

Yes, the Radeon 4850 is affordable to a lot of gamers, but I can barely afford an IDR 1.000.000 video card, let alone an IDR 2.000.000 one. Which is where the new Radeon 4670 enters.

From the reviews that I read, I can conclude that a 4670 is a very good card for its $89 price tag, which would translate somewhere around IDR 900.000 here. It severely beats its direct rival, the Geforce 9500GT, which in turn beats a 8600GTS. The Geforce 9600GSO is a little bit faster than a 4670, but the 4670 is not that much slower, and for the money, I think it still wins.

What startled me, though, is that a 4670 has a very low power consumption level. It even needs less power than a 8600GTS, which is a nice thing to have.

Low power consumption means low heat output, and low heat output should means silent fan. Not that the fan in my current 8600GT is noisy, but knowing that I wouldn’t hear my video card whining inside the case is a very good thing. Besides, I’m only using a 380W Simbadda PSU, which is affordable, but is not that bad. Simbadda is one of the most widely used Power Supply brand here in Indonesia, offering cheap and cheerful solution. I’m pretty confident that this PSU can run a 9600 GT plus a couple more harddrvie in my PC, but I’m not going to bet on it.

Anyway, the Radeon 4670 is one of the best offering I see so far. If no better solution coming through, I’m buying this one for myself.
