I have experienced a great loss of data caused by virus. A stupid driver problem. Simple software installation that causes disaster. And, of course, just some unknown crashes. I believe moon phase have connection with the last one.
Well, that’s Windows for you. Before any of you start putting comments below, let me tell you something. I tried Linux. No, wait, I mean I had been using Linux as my only operating system for a few months. That is, until I upgrade my graphics card (and motherboard, memory, processor, too) from an ancient Geforce 4 MX 420 (gasp!) to a heaven-shaking Geforce 8600GT.
Okay, maybe it is not shaking any heaven after all. But it is still a huge leap from my old MX 420. Please understand my feeling here. Imagine you play games like Breed, Jedi Academy, and Warcraft. When suddenly you feel Crysis, The Witcher, and Supreme commander.
That graphics card part is the reason I returned to Windows. You should already know that I’m a gamer. I like games. Serious games, games with good graphics, games with good story, games that sizes more than 500 MB. Call me picky, call me narrow-minded. I don’t care. That is Linux’s weakness that prevents me from returning to it.
I actually tried to install game using Windows emulators in linux. Wine? I Installed the game just fine (it takes too long, actually), but I never succeed in making the game actually work. Cedega? Installs the game nicely, Actually lets me play it, generally great. But it’s not free, so no. Only crossover left for me to try, but I’ll postpone it until my harddrive arrived.
EDIT: Crossover is not free, either… oh, boy…
