Some people are crazy about the graphics of the game that they buy the most cutting-edge-holy-electrons-oh-boy graphics card to play every game at their maximum detail and resolution (cue Crysis). Yes, I think Crysis is visually astounding myself. But I’d rather hold back and wait a year or two to buy a perfectly nice *600-series card that will run it at decent speed.
Well, it seems that my wait is over, now that we have this, and, maybe, this. But I’ll wait a little more, mine is still perfectly fine.
I don’t mean anything harm by writing this…intentionally… I’m just trying to say that, in my opinion, people who buy the most expensive graphics card to play games are complete retards can be better off by buying midrange cards.
Let’s do a simple calculation here, a geforce 9800GX2 will cost you around US$750 (I’m in Indonesia), while a perfectly fine 9600GT will set you back around US$220.
But what will you got for almost three times as much money? not three times as much performance, of course. Yes, 9800GX2 will pummel the 9600GT easily, but do you really need it? As long as you’re not using any of those 30-inch monitors, you’ll be gaming pretty happily with the cheaper card.
(Even if you have a 30 inch monitor, you can drop the resolution from 2560x1600 to 1280x800 and enjoy the game with some AA and AF.)
If you’re using 22-inch monitors and below, you’ll get a perfectly good gameplay experience with a 9600GT. But if you’re using a 30-inch-giant as a monitor and insist on playing crysis, well, I think you’d be better off seeing a psychiatrist.

well, i know some friends that always-step-ahead in PC Gaming… for those people, money is doesn’t matter… as long as the thing can feast their eyes, ears, and touch with their gaming in maximum setting…
